The Spirit of Memorial Day

As we observe Memorial Day, our armed forces continue to battle around the world to defend and preserve freedom.

On this solemn occasion, please join me in taking a moment to pay tribute to those who make it possible for us to live as we choose. Many courageous men and women have paid for our freedoms with their lives, and many more put themselves in harm’s way every day to ensure that we all continue to enjoy the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness asserted by the Declaration of Independence.

Below is a poem that I feel embodies the spirit of Memorial Day. May each of us live life to the fullest and never forget the sacrifices that allow us to do so.
